Out until the Goats Come Home
This is the signal that the day is ending- the goats are coming in from the pastures. These goats are the goats that Child Hope Zambia provided to the community. Goats are extremely cherished in southern Zambia because of their many uses. It is said that if you do not have family, but you have the animals, you will survive. The goats give milk, manure (to use in the gardens), more baby goats to sell, and will be used in the traditional ceremonies when a future husband and wife decide to marry.
This wraps up the field visit from which we got so many great videos!
God Bless You!
Chim wanted to send a reassurance video to thank the current sponsors and reassure them that he takes his job very seriously.
I know from my personal experience with Chim that he is very concerned for the children, and he is more than 100% devoted to helping them. In fact, I hear from him every day! Usually he is sending me updates or responding to sponsors questions. I will still get e-mails from him at 10:00PM my time, which means it is 5:00AM Zambia time. He seems to be up all night long. I questioned him on this the other day because I was concerned that he may not be sleeping at all. He assured me that he does sleep, but not for very long. This was what he told me: "I do sleep but very late rather for only a few hours. We are in a hurry to help these children. We can not leave them to sufffer like this.I feel we need to do something to change their situation."
This is why he is up most of the night. As you can see by all of the photos and videos, he has gotten a lot done.
Chim has put his heart and soul into ChildHope Zambia for 10 years, and the sponsorship program is no different. He is serious about helping these children, and he is so appreciative of every sponsor that helps a child/ children.
Meet Mr. Clement Malambo
Chim asked the man to introduce himself and tell him how many children he had. He told Chim that he was Clement Malambo and has 3 children. Asked if the children were in school. Mr. Malambo told Chim that one child was at the CHILDHOPE supported ECCDE. The other two were not in school because they were still very young.
Chim then asked him how we could help his children.
He said that he needs help supporting his children in education and feeding in order to improve their health.
Chim then asked how the health of his children was. He told him that the child attending ECCDE had a problem with her legs. She has constant pain in her knees.
To sponsor Mr. Malambo's ECCDE child for only $9 a month, click on "sponsor primary child" on the left hand side of this blog.
The View of the Unfinished Primary Building
This video shows the unfinished primary school building. The building was attached to the Child Hope Zambia ECCDE center that was completed. Because the primary building is unfinished, the primary students wind up in the ECCDE building doing their classes.
Supporting 18 Grandchildren
Chim asked the older lady what her name was and how many children she looked after and the relationship. She told him she was Margret Halubala looking after 18 of her grandchildren. Ms, Margret said that the children needed sponsorship to help with the purchase school uniforms, books, shoes, feeding and beddings. When asked how difficult it was to look after the 18 children. She told Chim that it was very difficult to look after so many children and be able to take them all to school. That is the reason why some of them are not in school because she can not afford what it would cost to send all 18 to school.
To give any of her grandchildren a chance at going to school, you can sponsor them for only $9 a month! Click on "sponsor primary student", and state that you would like to sponsor one of Mrs. Margret Halubala's grandchildren.
Food vs. Books
The lady in the video is trying to explain how she finds it difficult to look after the children. Getting food for the children is very difficult for her. She says most of the times the children go to sleep hungry. She does not know what to do. Though she is able to feed them most of the time, she does not manage to provide them with enough to fill their bellies .She says supporting child education has been the biggest challenge for her because she will buy food before paying for the children to go to school.
When Money is Short- Education is the First to Go!
Chim asked the older lady what her name was and how many children she was looking after. She told him that she was Rebecca Masaka and was looking after 12 children. She went on to tell us that it was very difficult to look after these children.
Asked her as to whether children were learning. She said some children were in school while others were not. She said of the 12; some stopped schooling 2 years ago due to lack of funds. She would like all of the children to be able to go to school, but she can not afford to send them all. She would love to have sponsors for the children so that all of them can go back to school. She needs help with the purchase of food, clothes, uniforms, books, pencils and paying school fees for the children.
You may specify that you would like to sponsor one of Ms. Rebecca's grandchildren. They are all in need of a sponsor.

She says feeding the children is not easy as it not only Astridah she is looking after.

Grandparents raising children for a 2nd time
Chim asked the older man to introduce himself of which he did. Chim then asked him as to whether he was the one looking after all the children that were there and how many there were. He told Chim that he was the one looking after all the children that were there and altogether there were 11 children.
Chim: "Are you able to support all 11 of the children?"
Older Man: "Sometimes, off and on."
Chim: "What help do you need for these children? Where do you get food to feed the children?"
Older Man: "I do what I can here and there."
Chim: "How many children of the 11 are in school?"
Older Man: "Only 4 children are in school. The rest are not in school due to lack of funds."
Chim: "What help do you need for these children?"
Older Man: "We need help to give the children an education. He would like the support through the purchase of uniforms, blankets, shoes, books, pencils. Without these items, the children can not go to school. We, also, do not have enough food to feed so many children."

Meet Pretty Mulinga #54
This student is in need of a sponsor to help her finish out her school year. If you can sponsor her for 6 months, it would be greatly appreciated! You are always welcome to continue to help the student past 9th grade, but our sponsorship program only goes through the 9th grade. Secondary student sponsorship is $15 a month. After December, you may continue to keep in contact with your student you sponsored through 9th grade. She looks so sweet and "Pretty" fits her perfectly!
The importance of Sponsorship
This lady is talking about how hard it is for the her to support all of the children and afford to be able to send them all to school.
This lady is the lady that is the children's caretaker. Like many Zambians, she has found herself taking care of children that are not her own due to the HIV/AIDS crisis in the country. It is estimated that 16% of Zambians are HIV+.

ECCDE Preschool Gift Distribution
Introducing the preschool children!! There are a few preschool children still left in need of sponsors. This is a special group because they need so much in their classrooms. Their classroom, as you can see, has the bare minimum. In order to provide help to as many children as possible, the children who are sponsored will more than likely share their books with unsponsored children. Unless, we have a miracle happen and they all get sponsors, which would be really great.
The classroom itself is in need of educational materials as well, so this has been added to the gift distribution. It would be nice to have several sets of building blocks. One set of building blocks can be purchased if two children's gift money is use for that purpose on month 8. So, it takes two sponsored children to buy that item. Items such as paint and wall charts can be had with just one child's gift money. Combined, 5 children could provide the classroom with two sets of blocks, some wall charts, and a paint kit. Does this make sense?
Right now, we do have 2 ECCDE children sponsored. They are 2 of the Muloba children. In month 8, those two children could provide the classroom with a set of blocks. We need more ECCDE children to get sponsors to make a big difference in the school. The preschool is not set up by the government but solely by Child Hope Zambia. The only things in the classroom are things that have been provided by generous donors. It would be nice to donate some fun things like dolls and toy cars to the classroom as well (just a thought)!
I hope you are as excited as I am about this wonderful program! Here is the gift distribution table for the preschool children:
Month 1: 6 exercise books, ruler, pencil, eraser, box of crayons
Month 2: Shoes
Month 3: nothing bought for the child this month
Month 4: individual learning materials bought and given to child to include Vicas books, Bubbles face book, Baby touch, Lady bird book, Coloring books
Month 5: nothing bought for the child this month
Month 6: hygiene kit which includes tooth brush, soap, body towels, toothpaste, washing detergent, tissues, and vaseline
Month 7: nothing bought for the child this month
Month 8: classroom materials bought for the classroom as a whole- some items which may be purchased with this money are building blocks, water paint, wall charts, and other educational materials
Month 9: nothing bought for child this month
Month 10: 1/2 tuition payment
Month 11: nothing bought for child this month
Month 12: 1/2 tuition payment
As with the other sponsorship programs with CHZ, there will always be a small pocket of money carried over each month to purchase medicinal items as needed such as: anti-malaria, paracetamol/panadol, anti-diarrhea, anti-ringworms, and anti-biliharzia
Grandmother with the 11 children she cares for
This woman is the care-taker of 11 children. You can see some of the children seated beside her as she prepares a meal. She needs support in paying for their education and the things they need to go to school. She is having a hard time providing enough food for everyone. The children are part of the feeding program which provides them with breakfast and lunch at school. This has helped ease the burden of taking care of so many children at an old age. She would like to have sponsors for all 11 of the children.
A Boy and his Hut Part 2
This young boy was extremely excited to hear about the sponsorship program. He said he wound like to be supported in school and was happy that sponsorship would provide him with his uniforms, books, shoes and food. He says he is in grade 3 at Simwaba basic. He, also, said that it is very difficult for his guardians to provide food for him every day, and at least he can get food at school. To sponsor him or another child like him for only $9 a month, visit www.childhopezambia.blogspot.com
A boy and his hut in Zambia
Here is a video of a typical home in Mazabuka. For those of you who already sponsor children through Child Hope Zambia, I would like for you to imagive the family you sponsor in this home. The typical family consists of a guardian (mother and father) and 6.5 children! I am not sure how they all fit in a home such as this one. Wow!
