Meet Clever!

Translation by Chim:
I asked the lady what her name was and she told me that she was Fines Chenjela and the child’s name was Clever Mulomba. When asked what   relationship she had with the boy, she told me that the boy in the video was her child. I asked the lady what the child was suffering from and she told me that the boy had body pains. She went on to tell me that the boy had anaemia and was suffering from Epilepsy from the time he was born. The lady said the boy lost his father, and as a single mother she found it hard to provide him with the things he needs to survive.  She said the boy’s mind was unbalanced and was appealing for someone to help the child.  Asked what support the child needed, the lady told me that the child needed food, blankets, clothes and someone to look into his health.

Clever needs a sponsor as soon as possible.  For now, he needs someone that can provide him with medical treatment.  His mind is not stable enough for him to go to school.  With proper treatment, this may be a possibility in the future. He is extremely fragile medically.  If you can help Clever, send an e-mail to macandmic@gmail.com

Here are some more photos from distribution that were missing from the previous posts.  I will be sending a list to everyone on the yahoo group to let you know what we are missing pictures of that will be taken at next distribution.

Happy Easter!!

New Program for Widows!!

If you are not a part of our yahoo group, make sure to get signed up.  It is the best way to get updates and surprises.  One such surprise was announced yesterday on the board.  We now offer a penpal program that will link the widows/older women of Mazabuka with a caring friend.  As a penpal to a widow in our program, you will receive regular letters and are free to write to them as often as you would like to.  You may, also, purchase or send them gifts that they can pick up at distribution.

These women work long and hard in order to continue providing for their families without their spouses.  Most are raising their grandchildren.  This penpal program is meant to give them something to look forward to.  For now, we are allowing only one widow per sponsor until everyone has a chance to help.  Then, you can write to 2 or more if you wish.

In order to see the women waiting for penpals, you have to be on the yahoo group board.  There is a photo album of ladies labeled "Sponsors for Widows".  We only have 8 women left, so if you are interested in writing to one, let me know asap via the board.

A couple of months from now, when relationships have been established, it will be possible to set the women up with IGPs (Income Generating Projects).  No doubt that everyone has a talent, and these ladies are sure to be able to find their niche if given a chance.

I hope everyone enjoys the program for years to come!

2011 Fourth Distribution: Thank you

This is the last band video for this past distribution.  Enjoy!

2011 Fourth Distribution: Song and Dance

This is the continuation to the video you saw right before this one.  This is the song thanking the sponsors for helping the children of Mazabuka.

Thank you, Sponsors!!

A dance and song for the sponsors who are helping the children of Mazabuka.  Aren't these girls so sweet?!  This video is in appreciation of the work CHILDHOPE is doing with orphans and vulnerable children. The song is thanking CHILDHOPE and the people that took the organization to the area. The videos are also thanking the donors/sponsors for the work they are doing with CHILDHOPE. The songs are also thanking the community members for accepting CHILDHOPE and working with it.
Does anyone recognize any of the 6 dancers?

Astridah shows off her ear!

Look closely and you will see the spot on the base of Astridah's ear where the surgeon made an incision.  This is Astridah's ear after the stitches were removed.  =)

These photos are just random.  You can see that some children received their school fee certificates, others got candy, and still others received packages.  Sorry to throw them all into one post- I wasn't sure how to organize them all since they were not scheduled gifts.

All of these children have gifts provided by ASH donations.  I sent 2 large flat rate boxes of pencils, chocolate candy bags, TY beanie babies, necklaces, and bracelets.  Then, I sent 4 flat rate boxes of clothing.  Most of the clothing these kids are wearing came from those boxes.  Vicent looks especially proud of his outfit!!!  The shirt came from Nicole and the overalls from me.  If you do not see the child in their uniform, they are wearing some of the clothes sent all because a group of 7th graders in Louisiana wanted to make a difference!!  Great job, ladies!!!  Thank you for your hard work!  The children really appreciate what you have provided for them!!

(obviously, many more pictures of clothes and extras are coming!)
