Part of June Distribution 2010!

Check out all of these gifts!! I have not yet sent the 3rd wire to Zambia with which the Zambia team will purchase the children's uniforms... BUT, these items were purchased with May sponsorship funds and with the funds that were received for the purchase of mosquito nets. These are the medical items purchased:

1. ORS oral rehydration salts- Taken from Wikipedia: "Oral rehydration therapy (ORT) is a simple treatment for dehydration associated with diarrhea, particularly gastroenteritis/gastroenteropathy, such as that caused by cholera or rotavirus. ORT consists of a solution of salts and sugars which is taken by mouth. It is used around the world, but is most important in the developing world, where it saves millions of children a year from death due to diarrhea—the second leading cause of death in children under five."

2. Chlorine: Chlorine is needed in water purification to make it fit for human consumption as drinking water. Water which has been treated with chlorine is effective in preventing the spread of water born disease because it is effective against almost all bacteria and viruses, as well as amoeba.

3. Treated Mosquito nets: Stop the spread of malaria! These nets are the most effective ones around because the are treated with repellant. They must be retreated every 6 months to stay effective.

4. Other medicines were included, but I am not sure at this time which ones were purchased. I will have to update that part later.
