2010 was a successful year for our CHZ sponsorship program. I wanted to share some numbers so you can see for yourself just how successful we were. We launched the program in May, so these numbers represent about 8 months of work. I'm excited just imagining what we will do in 2011!
We found 57 sponsors, and 256 children were sponsored.
We raised over $1500 for urgent projects including:
-- Hanatonga's wheelchair
-- Mrs. Mweemba's bike
-- A digital camera
-- A replacement laptop and external hard drive
We provided 120 children with standard medical check-ups that they otherwise would not have had access to, and we sent funds that allowed 5 children with more serious conditions to visit the local clinic for medical care.
We distributed 116 hygiene kits to help prevent the spread of common diseases.
47 children received blankets, and 77 received mosquito nets.
We distributed 96 chickens and 9 goats. 4 children received maize seed.
We sent beans to 6 kids, and 25 kg bags of mealie meal to 20 kids.
99 children received a book bag for school, and 109 received school supplies. 23 children received other educational material such as books.
146 children received a new pair of shoes. 126 children received a school uniform or other clothing items.
5 children received soccer balls which, as you've already seen, they are using to make a positive change in their community.
And, most importantly, we've helped bring smiles to children and families that do not have much in life to smile about. A heart-felt thank you to everyone who's helped us so far!!
