August 2010 Distribution Part 6- Food is Served!

one primary child looking eating with some of the preschool children.
primary and secondary children eating together

more primary children

these primary girls found a great hiding spot to eat and chat without the boys around.

These are the mothers and cooks who helped prepare the food for everyone.
Just a few fathers and volunteers

The food was well-received at distribution. We raised $130, and so we were able to feed everyone a small meal of nshima and beef stew. As most of you know, the food is for the sponsored children who attend the distribution and, also, for their families. There are volunteers who help in distribution such as the cooks and others who sort out the children and what they are receiving. These adults were fed as well. Wish I could have been there to join in on the sharing and camaraderie! As you can see, most are sharing their bowl of food, as is the custom. I find this especially intriguing knowing that most do not have regular meals, yet they still lovingly share their bowl with family and friends!! Wow! Talk about some amazing people!

Update on Astridah

Here is Astridah and her grandmother. The grandmother to Astridah is saying thank you for the medical help that was given to repair Astridah's ear. The grandmother was saying that the hearing of Astridah has improved. She is very thankful for the help. She says Astridah is an orphan and there was nobody to help her. Now that she has a sponsor, the grandmother is very appreciative.

August 2010 Distribution Part 2- Preschool July Students

Rowness above and Mester below

Margret above and her twin sister Elizabeth below

These are the preschool children who have been sponsored for 2 months. They received shoes, school bags, and school supplies. What pretty girls!!! And, check out itty bitty Rowness! He look so much bigger in his sponsorship photo, but he is only 1 year old after all. The younger children such as Rowness received shoes and other items. I will post as soon as I know what was purchased for them. They are too small for school supplies and book bags, so something comparable was given to them. Stay tuned for details on that. Are these children precious or what!?!? It makes me want to help another one!! :o)

August 2010 Distribution Items

What a fun and busy month this will be!! Yesterday was the first day back to school for the students, and now, we will have August distribution tomorrow!! The Zambia team has been in the shops purchasing everything they will need. Above are some of the items they have purchased (thanks to the sponsors!!)
Then, a week later we will have medical exams for those who choose to get them done for their children. It is only $10 for a full exam! Payment must be received by September 10, 2010 in order for the child to be included in this special event. The parents will sign a release giving permission for the sponsor to know the medical conditions of their children. At that point, the sponsor may choose to help the children get treatment they may need if any.
The last thing for the month will be September distribution!! The children whose sponsorship started in August and those that started in June will be at the end of September distribution. Sponsorship payment must be received by September 20, 2010 in order to get the distribution items purchased in time for the children to receive them the following week.
So, are you exited about tomorrow?! I know the kids are!!! I will be posting pictures as soon as I have them.

Ashes at school

There are not enough desks for all of the students, so my sponsored child Ashes is one of the children that sits on the floor. The desks that the children use fit 3 students to a desk. Each desk costs $120 or only $40 per child. The good thing about furniture is that it lasts for many years, not just one school term!! If you would like to provide a desk for these children, please send an e-mail to macandmic@gmail.com
