Meet Gladness Mainza Hakooma #742

This is Gladness in front of her home.  Below, she lays the dishes out to dry

Above, Gladness washes the dishes after the meal.

Check out this little cutie from Chalimbana!!  Her name is Gladness, and she is 6 years old.  She currently goes to CHILDHOPE preschool in Chalimbana.  That means she is a part of the preschool that has not building.  Even though they have no building to cover them during school, many children in Chalimbana attend class regularly.  Their classroom is a spot in the shade outside.
Gladness has been attending preschool for a few year now, and this is her last year before starting primary school.  She needs to do well in her class in order to be promoted to 1st grade in January 2013.  She wants to be a nurse when she grows up, so getting promoted to 1st grade is an important step.

Gladness needs a sponsor to provide her with educational, medical, and nutritional support.  She lives with her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. As you can see by the photo, her chore at home is dish washing.  She has mastered the skill and carefully washes plates, pots, and pans and then lays them out in the sun to dry.
Gladness loves to draw, color and make pottery.  Her favorite colors are red and white.  She loves dolls and all things girly.

You can sponsor Gladness for only $11 a month!! This will provide her with educational, medical and nutritional support. Please consider sponsoring this deserving young lady!

Meet Emmanuel Hachuma #576

The sweet 9 year old boy in these photos is in need of a sponsor.  He is a second grader this year and hopes to become a pilot.  His family is extremely poor, so his pilot dreams will not happen without sponsorship.
He has 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and he lives in Simwaba.  As you can see, he could use some new clothes as well as a new uniform for school.

You can sponsor Emmanuel for only $11 a month!!  This will provide him with educational, medical and nutritional support.  Please consider sponsoring this deserving young man!

The 2012 Program

We have just begun a new program that started March 2012.  This new program will get more of the community of Mazabuka involved, so I am very excited.  With community members helping we can reach more children, and have closer contact with the children who are already sponsored.  It will take a few months to see the full impact, of course.  We hope to provide annual updates including educational progress, health updates, etc.

Now, we just need your help!  We have many children who are waiting for sponsors.  They can be found on our web-site www.mwanahopezambia.com  If you have any questions about sponsorship, you may contact Heather G and Holly at hgriffins85@yahoo.com .  You can sponsor a child for only $11 a month or $33 a quarter.  When you go to our web-site and look at the children, you will find many of the children have multiple photographs and letters right there where you can see them (when you click on the child you are interested in, the photos and letters will pop up to view)!!  Sponsorship is a dream for these children.  It means hope!

Without sponsorship, these children do not get medical checkups.  Most will not finish school due to lack of funds.  Many will not eat regularly (only 1 meal a day).

After 2 years of the sponsorship program, CHILD-HOPE has seen big changes in the children's health and school progress.  With you, we can make a difference!!

Exciting News!

So many exciting things ahead!  I am anxious to unveil them!
First, I want to mention that we are coming up on our 2 year anniversary.  I am excited that the program is improving yet again in many ways.
Here are some of the changes that you will already see in the child's account on the Mwana Hope website:
You will now see letters that the child has written!!  This means that you can read their letters before you decide to sponsor them.  You will see how they write, what they write about, information on their family and home life, and more!  I have uploaded all of the letters for children with the highest child ID numbers, and I will be uploading all of the letters that I have within the week.
Additionally, annual reports will be uploaded in the child's account as they are received.  Check out Benny Mwiinga #730's account to see what they look like.  This is the easiest way to get information back on the children, so I sent a test batch to several of them.  Now, I am sending out more of these reports so that they can be filled out the next time Chim and crew get to Mazabuka.
Having digital uploads of these paper items will save us hundreds of dollars a year in postage, which means more money gets to the communities themselves.
I, also, like the idea of being able to go into the child's account to reread letters they have written.  When I write to a child, I always have to look back at the letter they wrote to me to remember their questions and conversation.  This digital letter means I can look back at their last letter and the one before and before that, and before that...
I just love it, and I hope you do, too!!

Mulinga Family

This beautiful family is filled with many deserving children who would love to be a part of the sponsorship program.  To find the Mulinga children available for sponsorship, you can use the search feature on our web-site: www.mwanahopezambia.com  Simply put Mulinga in the name field of the search.  There are 4 boys that remain unsponsored.  Their oldest sister completed 10th grade last year, so she really wants to better her life through education!  This is refreshing to see!

Cameras

The returned cameras have arrived!!  Yay!!  It is about to storm here with chances of tornadoes and flooding, but as soon as the disaster passes over I will get the cameras to the store... Then, everyone will start receiving their digital prints!  If you would like to share your photos with the group, let me know, and I will make a post of that child's photos for everyone to enjoy =)
